Artist Tak Younger-jun, whose focus lies in exploring the intersections between queer identification, spiritual perception programs and architectural types, has been named the winner of the twenty fourth SongEun Artwork Award on Tuesday.

His profitable piece, “Love at First Sight on Monday,” is the third installment in his ongoing choreographic movie sequence, impressed by the Norwegian writer Lars Mytting’s 2019 epic novel “The Bell within the Lake.”

Set in a Scandinavian village in 1880, the e-book weaves a story of a love triangle involving a younger townswoman, a pastor and a German architect, all whereas grappling with the sweeping tides of modernization and the paranormal native legend of church bells.

Tak’s movie brings the story’s theme of transcendent like to life by evocative choreography. Dancers transfer gracefully towards the backdrops of an Eleventh-century Norwegian church and the silhouette of a retired jumbo jet.

Established in 2001 by the SongEun Artwork and Cultural Basis, the annual SongEun Artwork Award goals to acknowledge next-generation creative visionaries in Korea beneath the age of 45.

Tak was chosen because the grand prize winner from a pool of 598 functions, narrowed all the way down to a shortlist of 20 creatives and collectives for the award’s twenty fourth version.

He’ll obtain 20 million received ($13,800) and the chance to carry a solo exhibition at SongEun Artwork House in southern Seoul, together with a spot within the Seoul Museum of Artwork’s yearlong Nanji Residency program.

Moreover, two of his works might be acquired for the collections of the SongEun Artwork and Cultural Basis and the Seoul Museum of Artwork.

Tak’s “Love at First Sight on Monday” will stay on show till Feb. 22 as a part of a gaggle exhibition that includes the prize’s finalists at SongEun Artwork House.

The SongEun Artwork Award stands as one of many nation’s most prestigious honors in up to date artwork, alongside the Korea Artist Prize and the Hermes Basis Missulsang. Its previous recipients, reminiscent of Jun So-jung, Kim Younger-eun and Yoo Hwa-soo, have notably expanded their affect in Korea and internationally, underscoring the award’s affect.
