Army personnel on guard responsibility on the presidential residence is not going to be mobilized to impede investigators from trying to detain impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol, the protection ministry mentioned Tuesday.

Investigators are anticipated to make a second try and detain Yoon this week over his short-lived martial regulation imposition, after a failed bid early this month that concerned an hourslong standoff between the police and Yoon’s safety workers on the compound in central Seoul.

„(We) clearly state that the navy safety unit will give attention to its mission to protect the edges of the residence and won’t be mobilized (to impede) the warrant execution,“ Col. Lee Kyung-ho, a protection ministry spokesperson, mentioned in a briefing.

Lee mentioned the protection ministry has knowledgeable the Presidential Safety Service (PSS) of its stance, and the company confirmed it might not mobilize the navy unit guarding the residence.

Police suspect that PSS officers ordered the unit to participate in efforts to dam investigators from detaining Yoon throughout their first try on Jan. 3. (Yonhap)
