Hyundai E&c Says To Ensure 'smooth Progression' Of Panama Metro Project Amid Workers' Strike

Hyundai Engineering & Building (E&C), a South Korean builder collaborating in a serious metro building mission in Panama, mentioned Wednesday it’s going to make sure the „clean development“ of mission operations regardless of an indefinite strike by native building employees.

In line with Panama’s labor ministry and the nation’s building employees‘ union, known as SUNTRACS, 1000’s of employees on the Panama Metro Line 3 mission started an indefinite strike on Monday demanding improved wage situations and the supply of extra security gear.

The mission is being carried out by HPH JV, a South Korean consortium shaped by Hyundai E&C, Hyundai Engineering Co. and POSCO E&C Co.

„We’re repeatedly negotiating with the labor union and can guarantee the sleek development of our operations with none disruptions,“ Hyundai E&C mentioned in an announcement despatched to Yonhap Information Company.

An organization official mentioned the Panama labor ministry was arbitrating negotiations.

„Over 90 p.c of employees concerned within the mission are union members. We can not transfer ahead with the mission with out their work,“ the official added.

In line with the union, about 3,000 employees have participated within the strike.

The South Korean consortium secured the $2.81 billion mission from Panama in 2020, which is about for completion within the first half of 2026. (Yonhap)
