Senior prosecutors from throughout the nation held a gathering on Sunday to debate the subsequent steps in President Yoon Suk Yeol’s martial legislation case, officers stated, because the arrested president’s detention interval nears its finish.

The assembly presided over by Prosecutor Basic Shim Woo-jung occurred a day after a Seoul courtroom rejected the prosecution’s request to increase Yoon’s arrest for the second time. Prosecutors had sought to query Yoon themselves if the request was granted.

Prosecutors now face the selection of indicting Yoon or releasing him with out having had a chance to immediately query Yoon.

By legislation, a suspect should be launched if not indicted inside the detention interval. Yoon’s detention is about to finish on Monday after he was detained on Jan. 15 by the Corruption Investigation Workplace for Excessive-ranking Officers (CIO). He was formally arrested on Jan. 19.

The CIO, which led the investigation into Yoon’s short-lived imposition of martial legislation, transferred the case to the prosecution final week because the company doesn’t have a authorized mandate to indict a president. (Yonhap)
